Words of (pop) wisdom
I can’t stand the way you go on MySpace and people’s profiles are all about what they like and what they don’t like. They are such dutiful little consumers and they willingly reduce themselves to shopping lists.
Jarvis Cocker - Q Magazine #245 - p.77
The internet is the grandest illusion ever created. It makes people think they’re really informed, they’re really popular, they have loads of friends, they are part of a community. Anf they actually have a voice. They don’t realise that like all of us, they’re completely fucked and powerless.
Nicky Wire (The Manic Street Preachers) - Q Magazine #245 - p.107
They [the tabloids] do that because she [Amy Winehouse] is a woman. I had the same experience. If a man uses drugs, it doesn’t really hurt him in the eyes of people. They just become more dangerous and a bit more glamorous. But if a woman does it, because of motherhood and marriage, they immediatey become evil, wicked and wrong. What has she done really that’s so terrible ?
Marianne Faithfull - Q Magazine #245 - p.82
There are still good bands out there, like Crystal Castles, but there’s no integrity and tons of fake intellectuality. Fucking Alex Kapranos. And if people look up to Brian Eno as an intellectual God, we are in trouble. He made Colplay sound like Enya !
