Une Nouvelle ou Ultime frontière ?

Il semblerait que le nom du vaisseau du capitaine Kirk fasse référence à des bateaux éponymes (dont le premier serait français), plutôt qu'aux ambitions spatiales du président Kennedy.

Dans un autre discours, le 12 septembre 1962 (Address at Rice University on the Nation's Space Effort), Kennedy introduit la célèbre formule de "nouvelle frontière" : What was once the furthest outpost on the old frontier of the West will be the furthest outpost on the new frontier of science and space.
Dans le générique original de Star Trek, il est question "d'ultime frontière" (final frontier), une formulation dont la tournure plus dramatique peut lui faire supplanter l'originale (sans compter que M. Spock est plus sympathique que Lyndon B. Johnson).
